Joan Van Nuys' Guestbook

Over the years, Joan's many visitors have spoken of the pleasure her books have brought to their lives. May these tributes to a favorite author bring comfort to you as they have to her friends here at Eclectics. You are welcome to add your comments.

Hello, I need to get in touch with the family. Joan so kindly gave original material to the book I was working on, Hooking the Reader: Opening Lines that Sell. July 31, 2001, this book is out! Finally! And I must get a copy to the family. I am unsure whether the snail address I have is current, so please email me to verify it. Thank you!

I am sorry to just find out about Mrs. Van Nuys passing. I have been a fan for a few years now. She was always so sweet in her replies to her fans when they wrote her. My prayers are with her family. Thanks for everything! Your adventures will be sorely missed!! Shannon

I am a reviewer for SharpWriter.com and received one of Joan's books to review. This is the first book of her's I've read and although I'm not big on historical romance I really enjoyed it. I was looking for more information on Joan when I discovered this site. I'm shocked by the news of her death. As a fellow author, the literature world has lost a great asset. I'll be keeping Joan's family and friends in my prayers.

I happened to stumble upon this website, and to my shock I have found out that this great author has passed away! Most, if not all, of her books are on my keeper shelf. She was an exceptional author and I'm saddened at the news. She was a gem!

I am shocked, I didn't know. Ms. Van Nuys was one of my favorite authors and I have been wondering why she hasn't written anything lately. I have been searching the web for her site and now I know. It makes me so sad. I will miss her. She brought so much pleasure to me. My condolences to the family. Your Mom-Grandmom, was a great lady.

I'm sorry to see that Mrs. van Nuys has passed away. I didn't really know her, but her husband, Robert, had been a professor of mine and a good friend. It was Joan who answered my final letter to him and kindly broke the news of his passing; it's hard to believe she's gone now, too. I think they are together again at last. My prayers are with your family and friends. From what I've seen, you had the privilege of knowing a talented and gracious woman.

I am so sorry to hear that Joan has passed. I just recently discovered her book on eBay and wrote to ask the seller to send me the text from the dust jacket so I could learn more about her and her family. I am wondering if her husband and I are related - Van Nuys is not a common name. If any of their family members still read this guest book, please contact me so we can "talk". I have a geneaology dating to Holland in the 1600's - I need your Dad's name to see if we share a family tree - perhaps we are distant cousins! Bless you all- Sally

I am so sorry for your loss. I was shocked to learn of it today. Joan, along with 100 other best-selling authors, had provided me with original copy for the upcoming book, Hooking the Reader: Opening Lines that Sell. Today I was attempting, yet again, to email Joan a simple release form. I had been waiting for her to return it to me through snail mail. As soon as you are able, would you please contact me about this? I will send the form as an attachment. Again, I am sorry to have to bring up work at this time.

'Although we never met Joan van Nuys, we know her through her daughter Carol, who is a colleague of us. In 1997 Carol wrote in this Guestbook as follows: "I'm so proud to be your Norwegian daughter! It's fun to be able to visit you without taking a plane! I love your web-site - it brings you closer to Norway. Carol van Nuys, Fredrikstad, Norway - Wednesday, August 06, 1997 at 05:39:52 (PDT)" Norway must have meant a lot to Joan thanks to her Norwegian daughter as we can read in her books about the wild but gallant Vikings. Hilary Clinton once said that the Viking ships were the Internett of that time. We only knew Carol's mother through the Internet - we would so much have loved to know her in person. A great loss, but a memory of beauty is a joy forever.' Colleagues of Carol van Nuys at the County Library of Østfold, Norway. ostfold@of.fylkesbibl.no

Hi JoanI do love your books. I've just recently joined the internet and I definately overwhelmed with what I find. Like the fact you wrote 2 books under the name Marianna Essex, now I need to find them. I've read almost all the others. I've ordered and searched local used book stores for Beloved Avenger and Beloved Deceiver to "no avail" but now I know where to go. Still my favorite is Unwilling Betrayer. Viking romances? This must be fantasy. To the best ofmy knowledge the only time there was any real actionin those days was at a funeral, at which time they took turns ravishing the newly departed's favoriteslave girl. But, if it can be done, Joan can do it. I'm workingmy way through a Norwegian translation of one of her pirate books. My favorite line, the way I read the Norwegian, finds the hero in his bunk. His beautiful captive ischained to the next bunk. He wonders if he should move in on her, and thinks to himself: "Well, whyshouldn't I? After all, I AM a pirate."The humble Farmer/ Maine Public Radio
